West Mercia Police Federation is encouraging officers to consider putting themselves forward as workplace representatives.
There are more than 10 roles available across the Force area – Herefordshire, Defford, HQ, Shropshire, Telford, North Worcestershire and South Worcestershire - all of which will offer successful candidates unique opportunities to gain expertise across a range of disciplines including conduct and performance, professional development, equality, detectives and roads policing.
West Mercia Police Federation chair Sarah Cooper, said: “My role as a rep, both in the workplace and now as chair, has been one of the most rewarding of my police career so I would encourage anyone with an interest in becoming a rep to put themselves forward.
“Being a Fed rep is challenging but to be able to assist colleagues in times of need is a huge privilege. I recognise that the demands of being a rep are often difficult to balance with a policing role so anyone who is considering applying needs to be realistic about managing the additional pressures, particularly in the current climate, although full support and training will, of course, be provided.”
Sarah explained areas where representation could be improved are firearms, student officers and all CID roles and said, in terms of location, representation was needed Herefordshire and at outstations, including Defford.
“Your Federation should reflect your workforce and we are seeking to improve our representation from all minority groups, including BAME and female officers. If anyone would like to discuss the role further they should get in touch with any current rep or I’m really happy to be contacted directly,” she added.
All members should receive details for how to put forward officers for the Federation elections but all current reps can also help anyone wanting to know more.
