West Mercia Police Federation

Branch supports National Day of Reflection

23 March 2021

West Mercia Police Federation will today be joining organisations up and down the country to mark the National Day of Reflection.

The event marks a year to the date that the Prime Minister announced the first national lockdown and aims to give the nation an opportunity to remember all those who have died over the past 12 months.

Led by the national cancer charity Marie Curie, today’s event will include a minute’s silence at midday.

Communities are also being encouraged to take part in the ‘beacon of light’ at 8pm by stepping out onto their doorsteps or standing at their windows while shining a light, whether that be a candle, torch or mobile phone.

West Mercia Police Federation branch chair Sarah Cooper said: “We’re proud to be coming together with the nation, police forces across the country, Police Federation branches and the public to support the Day of Reflection.

“The last 12 months have really taken their toll and it is important for everyone to have an opportunity to reflect, to remember all those who have lost their lives and to show their families that they will not be forgotten.”

The Federation is encouraging those who have dealt with loss or bereavement, whether at work or at home, to reach out for support if they need it.

“We are here to help, if you feel you are struggling, please contact the Federation officials or your workplace representatives,” Sarah adds.
