Surrey Police Federation is proud to be raising funds for Air Ambulance Charity Kent Surrey Sussex (KSS) - our chosen Federation charity for 2026.

KSS provides a vital life-saving service across Kent, Surrey and Sussex, responding to some of the most serious medical emergencies in our communities. Their highly skilled crews bring specialist doctors, paramedics and advanced treatment directly to patients when every second counts - whether at the roadside, in a public place, at work, at home, or wherever critical care is urgently needed.

The work of KSS is closely understood and deeply respected within policing. Police officers and staff are often present at serious road traffic collisions, major incidents, traumatic injuries and sudden medical emergencies. In those moments, the arrival of KSS can make an immediate and profound difference, bringing hospital-level care to the scene and giving patients the best possible chance of survival.

KSS operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, responding to over 3,100 incidents annually across the region and reaching any location within around 30 minutes. Their helicopters are described as “flying emergency rooms”, carrying the people, equipment and expertise needed to deliver advanced pre-hospital care, including emergency anaesthesia, blood transfusions and other life-saving interventions.

This service comes at significant cost. KSS states that it costs around £20.8 million each year - over £45,000 per day - to run its life-saving service, with the overwhelming majority of its income coming from donations, fundraising and gifts in wills.

This fundraising forms part of the Surrey Police Federation Reignition Awards 2026, an evening which recognises professionalism, courage and service within policing while bringing together officers, colleagues, affiliates and partner organisations.
