Suffolk Police Federation

Travel insurance: important information

19 March 2025

Subscribers to the Suffolk Police Federation Group Insurance Scheme (GIS) should note the following reminder from the insurance providers in relation to pre-existing medical conditions.

Are GIS subscribers covered for pre-existing conditions under the medical section of the travel insurance policy and do they need to declare these?

Pre-existing conditions do not need to be declared under this policy.

You are fully covered for any pre-existing conditions providing:

  • You have not been declared unfit to travel
  • You are not on a waiting list to receive inpatient treatment
  • You are not travelling for the purpose of medical treatment
  • You have not received a terminal prognosis

Please also note:

  • The purchase of prescription medicines for a pre-existing condition while abroad is not covered. It is therefore important you take a sufficient supply of prescription medicines with you when travelling
  • If an insured person or close relative has suffered a pre-existing medical condition that you could have reasonably foreseen would have given rise to a claim, you may not be covered

The above is confirmed on Page 10 of the full travel policy wording.

If you have any queries regarding pre-existing conditions, or if you believe any of the exclusions may be applicable to you and would like further guidance on this please, contact the George Burrows team on 01403 327719 who will happily assist with any questions.
