Flint House:‘It was like a five-star hotel’

2 July 2025

Suffolk Police Federation rep Sergeant Laura Deal turned to Flint House for support after sustaining an injury away from policing duties.

Laura was playing football for Bungay Town Ladies when she dislocated her ankle.

“I knew it wasn’t broken because my husband dropped me on it when he picked me up to put me in the car.”

Laura spent around two months in a cast while the injury healed.

And when the cast came off, Laura turned to Flint House to support her with her rehabilitation.

She said: “I was in a cast for about two months, and that tightens all your muscles up.

“So I went to Flint House and had their physiotherapy treatment for two weeks.

“I had physio twice a day, access to the pool. They gave me loads of exercises to do. They were absolutely brilliant.

“It was like a five-star hotel. You get really nice meals. There are loads of socials in the evening.”

And she encouraged Suffolk Police colleagues to consider donating to the police rehabilitation charity.

She said: “I was injured off duty and I got access to some of the best physios in the country.

“It gets you back to work quicker, which is what the Constabulary want, but also I’m fixed and get to do the things I want, like running.

“For that peace of mind, it’s worth donating to.”

For £10.23 a month, the Suffolk Police Support Fund includes a donation to Flint House. This also includes covers officers for £50 towards their travel costs should they ever require the support of Flint House.

More information on the Suffolk Police Support Fund and how to sign up is available on the Force intranet, or by emailing charities co-ordinator Angie McGlone.
