Suffolk Police Federation

Affordable private healthcare scheme for members

3 April 2025

Members are now able to become part of an affordable private healthcare scheme, created specifically with police officers in mind.

Suffolk Police Federation has partnered with the National Police Healthcare Scheme (NPHS) to offer access to premium healthcare to members and their families.

The branch has been a driving force in linking up with NPHS for the benefit of members.

Ben Hudson, Suffolk Police Federation secretary, said: “As police officers, we face unique challenges and dangerous situations daily.

“We never know when we may need to call on healthcare or a medical assessment.

“And we are all aware of the pressures facing the NHS and the long waits there some people can face, despite needing medical care to continue doing their job living the life they are used to.

Healthcare

“Which is why we’re delighted to link up with the National Police Healthcare Scheme and offer the benefits of private healthcare to our members and their families.”

Established in 1989, the NPHS is a not-for-profit trust, overseen by trustees who are serving police officers.

It aims to provide serving and retired police officers, police staff, and their families with swift access to the best medical treatment available at not-for-profit rates.

Suffolk Police Federation members who sign up get the first three months free. This is available for all membership categories. The scheme is also free for student officers for the first 12 months of service.

All members have exclusive access to the scheme’s luxury holiday homes and free membership of the Police Treatment Centres.

The scheme includes:

  • Consultant fees

  • Diagnostic procedures and tests

  • Surgical procedures and treatments

  • Physiotherapy, osteopathy, and chiropractic treatment

  • All relevant treatments and follow-ups

  • Alternative cash benefit for NHS Treatment

  • Pre-existing conditions are covered after two years

  • Membership of Police Treatment Centres

Ben said: “We’d encourage all members to look at the scheme and its benefits.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for members to have peace of mind that both themselves and their families will have access to the healthcare they need, when they need it most.”

Please note that scheme rules apply.

Members can apply online, or visit the National Police Healthcare Scheme’s website to find out more.
