‘I didn’t ever think I would be here, so it’s a massive privilege,’ says the first-ever Special Constable to be solely nominated for a national Police Bravery Award.
Kyle Scott was speaking after enjoying an exclusive reception at Downing Street, hosted by the new Home Secretary Yvette Cooper and policing minister Diana Johnson DBE this morning (Thursday 11 July).
Kyle was joined by his brother Ashley, along with dozens of other police officers who have been nominated for an award this year.
“To be here and to attend with other officers who have also been nominated is a real privilege,” said Kyle, “To be honest, it all feels a bit surreal.
“It was amazing to be invited inside Downing Street and a real honour.
“The food was very tasty, I’d definitely give Downing Street a ‘good’ rating on Trip Advisor - ‘would come again’.”
Kyle’s nomination came after he risked his life to rescue a vulnerable woman from the sea, having waded into ice-cold water.
He is the first Special to have ever been solely nominated for a national Police Bravery Award in history.
Kyle and Ashley, along with secretary of Suffolk Police Federation Ben Hudson, will be attending the national Police Bravery Awards ceremony, which is organised by the Police Federation of England and Wales (PFEW) tonight in London.
Deputy Chief Constable Rob Jones is also set to attend on behalf of the Force.
