Suffolk Police Federation

Latest branch magazine out now

19 August 2024

The summer edition of the Suffolk Police Federation magazine is out now including a feature on the first Special Constable to be solely nominated for a national Police Bravery Award.

Suffolk Police Federation member Kyle Scott was nominated after risking his life to save an unresponsive woman from freezing seas at Felixstowe.

“I’d definitely give Downing Street a ‘good rating on Trip Advisor – ‘would come again’,” he joked.

Read more from Kyle in Fed News, the branch magazine which is available to download now.

Darren Harris, branch chair, reflects on recent events affecting policing in his regular column, and he also calls on the new government to fulfil its election promises of tackling crime and anti-social behaviour with reinvestment in policing.

The branch is also writing to the county’s MPs following the election to build effective working relationships with them.

Pay increase

Branch secretary Ben Hudson gives a cautious welcome to the 4.75 per cent pay increase for officers as he voiced his disappointment the increase was below that awarded to other public sector workers.

Ben also discusses the Federation’s campaign for industrial rights following a ballot of members in June, and reacts to Office for National Statistics figures which revealed almost two in five Suffolk officers were assaulted last year.

There’s an exclusive interview with Chief Constable Rachel Kearton, as she discusses her 35 years in policing.

Mental health

Hear the story of retired officer PC Matt Kidd-Stanton, who has talked about the physical and mental health impact of the severe injury he sustained after saving a man’s life.

Helen Self, the branch’s health and safety lead, is encouraging members to follow up on-duty accidents and near misses by completing post-incident forms.

Welfare was at the forefront of this year’s Response Policing Action Week, reveals Fed member Sergeant Jo Miah, as welfare kits were sent to every response officer.

Fed rep PC Sid Carr talks about his driving ambition to be a roads policing officer.

It’s all in the latest edition of Fed News, which is available to download now.
