The spring edition of Suffolk Police Federation’s members’ magazine is out now.
Branch chair Darren Harris calls for a 17 per cent pay rise for police officers to bring them in line with public sector colleagues and to reflect the cost of living crisis and cuts to wages over the past two decades.
Darren also discusses the annual funding settlement and calls for a root and branch reform of the way police pay is decided, and we share the results of our annual pay and morale survey.
Branch secretary Ben Hudson focuses on caseloads and paperwork, which he describes as the biggest challenges facing detectives.
We hear from Federation member Becky Webster and her reasons for resigning after 25 years as an officer, while Federation rep Helen Self shares her story of being pregnant as a probationary officer as we marked International Women’s Day in March.
There’s also a focus on Specials including the story of Special Sergeant Martin Ruddy, who combines his role as a general manager at National Air Traffic Services (NATS) at Stansted Airport with being a volunteer.
