The findings of this year’s pay and morale survey will play a key role in the Police Federation of England and Wales (PFEW) campaign for fairer pay, says Suffolk branch chair Darren Harris.
The results will be used by the PFEW to support its campaign for fairer pay for members and an independent pay mechanism.
The findings will also be shared with police leaders, ministers and the public to highlight the issues facing frontline police officers.
Now Darren is encouraging members to take part in the survey, which opened today.
He said: “Many of our members are facing huge pressures on their finances as the cost of living crisis continues to bite.
“The findings of the survey will give a clear and possibly stark picture of the feelings of our members and what they’re facing.
“We’ll be sharing them with senior leaders and using them in our campaigns for better pay and conditions.
“It’s important that as many members as possible complete the survey to really highlight the issues they’re facing.
“Please make your voice heard.”
The survey is open until Monday 11 December.
Last year’s survey found that 74 per cent of Suffolk Police respondents were dissatisfied or very dissatisfied with their pay, while 14 per cent reported never or almost never having enough money to cover all their essentials.
Some 55 per cent of respondents said their morale was low or very low, with 88 per cent saying that morale within the Force was low or very low.
And 15 per cent said they intended to resign from the service in the next two years, with the impact of the job on family and personal life, morale, and the impact of the job on mental health and wellbeing the main reasons.
Members will be sent details of how to take part in the survey.
