The Force’s Special Constables are being invited to attend a webinar next Tuesday evening so they can find out more about the benefits of becoming a member of the Police Federation.
The webinar, which will start at 6.30pm, will be led by Suffolk Police Federation branch chair Darren Harris who is urging as many Specials as possible to sign in with details having been published on ‘duty sheet’.
“We are keen to welcome our Special Constables to the Federation following a change in the law under the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Act which came into effect earlier this summer,” says Darren.
“We are pleased that the Force has agreed to cover subscription fees for our Specials so they can receive the same representation, legal protection and support as their regular colleagues without having to pay out of their own pockets.
“Members of the Special Constabulary have a long and proud history, dating back to 1831, of volunteering their time to help police officers and serve their communities. Specials face the same risks and dangers as regular officers so it’s only right that they should have access to membership of the Federation.”
Specials who subscribe to the Federation will be able to receive support and advice from elected workplace representation and will also be able to call on expert advice and representation during performance and conduct proceedings and Post-Incident Procedures.
As subscribing Federation members, Specials will for the first time be able to apply for legal assistance in criminal, conduct and civil cases as well as gaining access to Member Service offers.
They will also be able to subscribe, for an additional fee, to Suffolk Police Federation’s Group Insurance Scheme. Benefits of the scheme include:
Federation membership includes access to the Federation welfare lodge based at Kelling Heath.
