A Suffolk Police inspector selected to represent the Force on Horse Guards Parade in London as the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations got underway has been reflecting on the experience.
Inspector Dan Fiske travelled the capital to support colleagues from the Metropolitan Police during the historic event which saw tens of thousands of well-wishers lining the streets to watch the parade.
He explained: “The Metropolitan Police Service contacted all the other forces inviting them to send a representative to be on Horse Guards Parade for Trooping the Colour.
“Initially Inspector Kieron Pederick was asked if he would represent Suffolk Police, which I think was absolutely right, but unfortunately he was unable to attend so I was essentially selected as first reserve.”
Dan travelled to London on the Thursday - the first day of the four-day Jubilee celebrations - and attended a briefing from the Met’s Gold and Silver Commander before taking up his position on Horse Guards Parade alongside colleagues from the other UK forces.
He said: “We lined Horse Guards for Trooping the Colour and then stayed to watch the flypast which came directly overhead before we were taken to Scotland Yard.
“It was a very proud moment for me to represent Suffolk at such a prestigious event and we were treated very well by the Met.
“We walked back to Lambeth from Horse Guards Parade and there was a lovely atmosphere in London. We got a chance to speak to lots of people as we walked through Parliament Square and it was a very positive policing experience.
“It was a fantastic day, the weather was great and it was really nice to be a part of the celebrations.”
