Suffolk Police Federation

Help Police Care UK by getting active

2 June 2021

This year’s Police Get Active Challenge gets underway later this month and Suffolk officers are being urged to go online and sign up to take part.

Those who choose to get involved can do any sort of physical activity from a 1km walk to running a marathon, swimming, joining a gym session, taking part in an exercise class or going on a bike ride and log their progress on the Get Active Challenge website or mobile phone apps.

Organisers said those taking part would give members the chance to raise money for Police Care UK and give their own health and wellbeing a boost at the same time.

The month-long challenge kicks off on 28 June and participants can raise funds by setting up a Just Giving or Virgin Money Giving page and asking family, friends, colleagues and workplaces to sponsor them.

The money raised will go directly towards improving the lives of police officers injured or killed on duty, and their loved ones and everyone who takes up the Get Active Challenge will receive a special commemorative police challenge coin.

It costs £15 to sign up and half the entry fee goes straight to Police Care UK, the charity for serving and veteran police officers and staff, volunteers, and their families who have suffered any physical or psychological harm as a result of policing.

Suffolk Police Federation chair Darren Harris urged members to sign up for the challenge.

He said: “This a great opportunity to raise funds for Police Care UK and get a bit of extra exercise at the same time which can only be a good thing.

“People can do as much or as little as they please but it’s a terrific idea to support the charity and I would encourage as many officers as possible to sign up and take part.”

The challenge runs until 26 July and officers can register online.
