Lucy Drage joined the Force in 2002 and currently works in Protective Services. She was drawn to policing out of a desire to help and support people - as well as looking for a challenge “doing something totally different from everything I knew”.
Her career started in Ipswich on uniformed patrol and she then moved to the first community policing team based in Nacton, Gainsborough and Greenwich.
Since then she’s been involved in covert policing, working on proactive tactical units, drugs teams and her current role.
Lucy became a workplace representative for Suffolk Police Federation following the elections over the summer.
She explained: “I’ve had really positive experiences with the Federation when I have needed advice and support, so I felt I might be able to offer that to other people.
“I also felt that because I am not involved in everyday policing, I am often detached from what’s going on more generally and not up to date on current procedures and regulations. I hope this role will assist with improving my knowledge and understanding.”
She hopes her experience in covert policing will allow her to offer more specialised advice and help to colleagues but looks forward to bringing “honesty and support” to members from all areas of policing.
A netball coach in her spare time, Lucy is also keenly interested in the intersection of wellbeing and sport and hopes to use this to benefit her colleagues in the future.
This difference between her everyday role and the context of most Federation reps is something Lucy knows will be a challenge, but it’s one she says she is looking forward to as she finds out exactly what the role entails and how she can use it to help and support others.
