Norfolk Police Federation has encouraged its members to complete the recently launched Pay and Morale survey.

Andy Symonds, Chair of Norfolk Police Federation, said: “I know officers hear this every year when it comes to the PFEW Pay and Morale survey is launched that it’s important that they complete it with their honest feedback.

“Not only are the results used nationally when it comes to the pay review body recommending our pay award but we use this locally in Norfolk in discussion and negotiations with the force and Chief.

“The force have only just closed its survey it conducted on culture within the workplace. I know it received around the high 50% response rate. Generally we see a response rate here in Norfolk of around the high 20%. Last year we had 508 responses from Norfolk police officers out of around 1900 officers.

“I firmly believe that the higher the turnout the more the pay review body and locally within the force take note and it can be used to our advantage. I know officers are fed up with these surveys and feel that they make no difference to their pay and morale. But I do know when speaking with MP’s, the PCC, Chief that they do take the time in understanding the results and nationally if we had a large turnout it’s impossible for the pay review body to not take cognisance of the feelings of officers in Norfolk and across England and Wales.

“I’m of the mind that some element in our pay awards reflect what is written and answered in the pay and morale survey. So that’s make our collective voice heard with those in positions to make change for the better.”
