Leicestershire Police and the Federation receive £700 donation from a local mosque towards welfare van
Leicestershire Police and the Federation have received a generous donation from a local mosque towards our welfare van - in gratitude for the force's hard work throughout Covid-19.
The attending community of Masjid Al-Falah in Spinney Hills raised £700 towards the van.
Supporting officers on the front line, the welfare van provides a comfortable space for officers when responding to a significant event or part of a large operation.
In gratitude of the force, chair of Masjid Al-Falah, Abdul Karim Gheewala, said: "God bless you, as you serve humanity without hesitation."
The funds raised will go towards ensuring the welfare van is stocked with essential items including appropriate PPE, food and drink.
Dave Stokes, Chairman of Leicestershire Police Federation, said: “It was so heartfelt to receive the donation.
“The Welfare Van is funded by Leicestershire Police Federation and Leicestershire Police. Officers use it during major incidents, as a welfare unit. In the Winter months when officers are wet and cold, it comes into its own and offers well needed rest bite.”
He added: “It’s messages and support from the community like this that reinforce why myself and our staff do what we do. There is nothing more satisfying than serving the community, but kind words like this really is a morale booster for officers, especially during the challenges that COVID brings to policing.”
Chief Superintendent and Head of Local Policing, Adam Streets, said: “I would like to say a huge personal thank-you to the committee of Masjid Al-Falah and its congregation.
“The money which has been donated will ensure that officers and staff will have enhances access to provisions to improve their welfare when deployed on the front line during these unprecedented times.
"I have been truly humbled by the generosity shown.”
Spokesperson of the Federation of Muslim Organisations (FMO) Suleman Nagdi said: "FMO is humbled by one of its affiliates, Masjid Al-Falah, who have donated money which was collected from their congregation for our frontline workers who have worked so hard during the pandemic.
"Thank you for all of the work you do to keep our communities safe. Your commitment to our safety is greatly appreciated."
“Providing essential supplies such as food and drink at times of need is vital to ensure the force’s police officers and staff working tremendously hard are well looked after."
