Volunteers in Policing Awards creates a 'worthy winner'

Leicestershire Police Federation chair Tiff Lynch has presented a special recognition award to Special Sergeant Arvind Mistry at the Volunteers in Policing Awards Evening.

The annual event took place at Leicester City Football Club and is hosted to mark and recognise the sterling work put in by those who volunteer their time to work alongside regular officers in the Leicestershire Police Force.

Leicestershire Police Federation sponsored the special recognition award for the fifth consecutive year and Tiff said she was delighted to present it to such a worthy winner.

“Arvind is clearly very dedicated to his role and has committed a lot of his time to the Force in building relations in the community and preventing crime,” says Tiff.

“The Special Constables are unable to be members of the Federation but they work side by side with regular officers and we wanted to recognise the work they put in for free. This is a show of support and inclusion for the police family.

“It was a fantastic event as always and all of those nominated for awards should feel extremely proud of themselves.”

Special Sgt Mistry won the award for his on-going work in the community during the Hindu festival of Navartatri.

Many people attend these events wearing gold jewellery and are vulnerable to street robbery and, as a consequence of the public gatherings, there are also a large number of empty homes which are at risk from burglary. 

Special Sgt Mistry has been organising extra patrols by the Special Constabulary in this area for several years and was on duty for all nine nights of the festival, overseeing the operation.

His award was one of 20 presented on an evening which saw Chief Constable Simon Cole and Deputy Chief Constable Rob Nixon address the audience.
