Chair’s delight at retaining role

15 May 2018

Leicestershire Police Federation chair Tiff Lynch says she is delighted to be in post for a further three years.

Tiff, who was first elected to the role in 2014, is now planning to build on the strong foundations she has put in place during her first term as chair.

“I believe I have taken the branch forward in the last four years but there is still so much I still want to achieve,” says Tiff, “In my first term as chair I have very much focussed on making internal changes within the Federation branch, embedding new things and establishing effective working relationships with chief officers, senior managers and the membership.

“The next three years will be much more intense, I think. It will be about further improving the branch and ensuring it is more outward looking while concentrating on members’ needs and concerns.

“I have the confidence to speak out, make robust challenges when required and use my position to influence those decision-makers who have such an impact on officers’ working lives.

“I want to put Leicestershire Police Federation at the forefront of issues and ensure that it does not just get swallowed up by the bigger branches of the Police Federation of England and Wales.”

Tiff is a member of the national Federation’s Parliamentary Working Group and has been a passionate supporter of the nationwide Protect the Protectors campaign on officer assaults.

The Police Federation is currently holding its first round of elections under the new regulations introduced following Sir David Normington’s independent review. Elections are held every three years.

Workplace representatives were elected in March and have formed the Branch Council. A smaller group of these representatives now make up the executive committee, the Branch Board. The principal officers were then elected by the Board, with the exception of the chair.

Those standing for the chair’s role were invited to put themselves forward ahead of a deadline of midnight on Friday (11 May).

Tiff was the sole nominee so was elected unopposed.

Other branches of the Federation will hold elections for their chair where more than one candidate was seeking election with all members of the branch invited to vote via an online system during May. Results will be announced at the end of the month.

Leicestershire Police Federation’s principal officers are:

Matt Robinson – secretary and treasurer

Dave Stokes  - assistant secretary and assistant treasurer

Jon Carter-Lang - equality lead

Leon Gamble - health and safety lead.
