PC Simon Toft and PC Alicia Snowden were recognised at the prestigious Awards in London last week for their heroic actions when disarming and arresting a man in possession of several weapons who was threatening to attack staff at a medical centre.
Lee Broadbent, Chair of Greater Manchester Police Federation, said he was honoured to accompany the officers to the Awards Ceremony. Lee added: “Their humility and humble nature on receipt of such a prestigious award is not uncommon in the service.
“Our colleagues often don’t like blowing their own trumpet, but this is a fine example of the dedication and bravery shown each and every day by those committed to serving the communities of Greater Manchester.
“I thought Simon and Alicia were fantastic candidates for this Award. This incident they faced together - with Alicia just having had 5 weeks training - to deal with that level of violence, with what can only be described as an armed maniac, is truly outstanding, so they really deserve their recognition.”
