As Dyfed Powys Police Federation marks International Women’s Day (Sunday 8 March), workplace representative Kelly Draper has spoken of her motivation to help her fellow officers.
Sergeant Kelly said she became a rep following her own personal experience of being supported by the Federation.
She explained that the support she received highlighted the difference a compassionate, committed rep can make.
And now she wants to ensure that help and advice is there for all colleagues, particularly female officers.

Kelly said: “The great work that the Federation does in supporting colleagues was something that I felt I wanted to be part of.
“I have had cause to use a Federation rep in the past.
“I was really fortunate that I had great support from a Fed rep at the time, and I wanted to do something similar to help my colleagues.
“I’m passionate about supporting my colleagues, particularly female colleagues and ensuring that they are treated fairly and equally within the organisation.
Kelly’s passion for supporting and advocating for others is reinforced by her policing experience.
This includes her time as a domestic abuse officer, where supporting people was central to her role.
She is now a sergeant in an investigation unit, supervising others and doing her best for crime victims.
And as the branch’s equality and wellbeing lead, Kelly also plays a key role in advocating for officers’ welfare.
She said: “Equality and wellbeing has always been important to me.
“People are an organisation’s greatest asset. If you look after officers, you’ll get the best out of them.”
Kelly also highlighted the strength of the Federation branch board.
She described it as a diverse and supportive group with a wide range of personalities and experience.
She said: “We’re a blend of difference skills and experiences, and that’s our strength.
“Everyone brings something different to the table, and it means we can better support the people we represent.”
