Dyfed Powys Police Federation

Three detectives are remembered

18 October 2025

Today marks the 35th anniversary of one of the most tragic incidents in the Force’s history.

DCs Leonid Evans, 41, Roger Meyrick, 37, and Nicholas Tabraham, 29, all died on 18 October 1990 after their vehicle was in a collision with a lorry while they were on surveillance training.

A fourth officer, DC Paul Hetherington, who was 35, died 11 days later as a result of the injuries sustained in the crash.

“This incident was a very dark day in the history of the Force,” says Delme Rees, chair of Dyfed Powys Police Federation, “Today we remember these officers, their service to the Force and their commitment to policing but we also keep the loved ones they left behind in our thoughts too.”

  • At this year’s Care of Police Survivors (COPS) service of remembrance at the National Memorial Arboretum, Roger Meyrick’s daughter detailed the impact his death had on her and her family in an emotional reading. Laurie Murphy was 16 when her father died.
