Dyfed Powys Police Federation

Support for officers preparing for retirement

18 September 2025

Are you a Dyfed Powys Police Federation member planning to retire within the next 18 months?

If so, the Federation is here to support you with advice and guidance as you prepare for life after policing.

Earlier this month, the Federation hosted a pre-retirement seminar at the Ivy Bush in Carmarthen, designed specifically for officers approaching the end of their service.

Topics

The event featured expert sessions covering a wide range of important topics:

  • Financial wellbeing and retirement planning – Martin Thomas of Personal Asset Management Wealth provided guidance on death and taxes, retirement planning and financial wellbeing.

  • Wills and estate protection – Paul Winterflood, estate planner and managing director of Protego, spoke about the importance of wills, estate planning and estate protection.

  • Police pensions – Tony Williams and Megan Bessent from the Force pensions team outlined what members should check as their retirement date approaches.

  • CV and interview preparation – Former officer and consultant police retirement and events coordinator John Giblin, who organised the seminar, shared practical advice on putting together a CV and interview skills.

The seminars are arranged twice a year by John in partnership with Dai Gaskins, the branch specialist case manager.

Seminars

Dai encouraged any officers approaching retirement who were unable to attend the recent session to get in touch.

He said: “Careful planning for life after policing is essential.

“It will help to provide officers with financial security, peace of mind, and the confidence to make a smooth transition into the next stage of their lives.”
