Federation elections: still time to put yourself forward as a rep

23 January 2025

But, there are still a few days left for members to nominate themselves for the role. Nominations, which opened on 30 December, close on Friday (24 January).

The Force’s constables, sergeants and inspecting ranks, as well as Specials, can stand in the local workplace representative elections which are being held in all Federation branches across England and Wales.

Information, including how to self-nominate and how to vote, has already been emailed to all members.

“These elections are very important,” says Delme Rees, the Dyfed Powys Police Federation chair, “They give all members the chance to stand as workplace representatives but also give them the chance to vote firstly for who they want to be their reps and later who they want to be the branch chair and then the national chair.

Election process

“I would urge all members to engage with the elections process. If they are interested in being a rep, now is the time to find out more and fill out the nomination forms. There are only a few days left so don’t delay any further. I would like to see some CID, RPU and NPT representation as well as those from under-represented groups put themselves forward.

“Speaking for the branch, it is really positive in how I have seen it develop and I’m keen to ensure this continues along with maintaining the high level of support to those colleagues that need it most.

“Voting for workplace reps, which is all done electronically, begins on 3 February and stays open until 23 February so there is plenty of time for members to have their say on who they want to represent them.”

The results of the local elections will be announced on 27 February with those elected becoming members of the Dyfed Powys Police Federation Branch Council. From there, they can stand for election to the Branch Board, which is the Federation executive, and then regional and national roles if they wish.

The election process continues in various stages right up to 1 October when the new National Board will be in place.

Delme says he is committed to providing resilience within the Federation branch, explaining: “Once the elections are complete - and should I still be chair - I want to ensure that we retain as much as possible the appropriate level of knowledge and experience that is only gained first-hand by the representatives who deal with the welfare, advice and misconduct cases on a daily basis.”
