Detective who died after tragic crash is remembered

29 October 2025

Dyfed Powys Police Federation today remembers DC Paul Hetherington who died on this day 35 years ago.

Paul, 35, was injured when the vehicle in which he was travelling was in collision with a service lorry while he was on surveillance training on 18 October 1990. He died in hospital on 29 October 1990.

Three of his colleagues – DCs Leonid Evans, Nicholas Tabraham and Roger Meyrick – all died in the accident.

Federation chair Delme Rees said: “Our thoughts today are with the family, friends and former colleagues that Paul left behind following his death after this tragic accident.  But we also remember Paul and keep him, and the service he gave to the Force, in our thoughts as we mark this sad anniversary.”
