Today marks the first anniversary of the death of Dyfed Powys Inspector Gareth Earp.
Gareth, 43, died in a road traffic accident as he travelled home from work on the A470 near Rhayader on 29 June 2023.
“Today is a sad day for the whole Force as we remember Gareth, the service he gave to Dyfed Powys Police and his tragic death,” says Ceris Davies, deputy secretary of Dyfed Powys Police Federation.
“But it is, of course a particularly sad day for Gareth’s family, his wife Tamsin, their three sons and his wider family. We keep them in our thoughts today.”
Having spent most of his 21-year Force career with Specialist Operations, Gareth had previously worked as an inspector in Ceredigion but at the time of his death was the Roads Policing Unit inspector.
He had become a police driving instructor, road deaths lead investigator, pursuit tactical advisor and team leader on the motorcycle VIP Escort Team escorting world leaders and members of the Royal Family across Wales, London and Scotland.
Gareth died just weeks before he was due to the be the team leader for the motorbike escort for the King and Queen when they visited Brecon.
