Dyfed Powys Police Federation members are being invited to sign up for a webinar which aims to encourage conversations about mental health and suicide prevention.
Breaking the Silence takes place on World Suicide Prevention Day on 10 September (10.30am to midday).
The free webinar is part of the Police Federation of England and Wales’s (PFEW) #AskTwice campaign, which encourages open conversations about mental health and fosters support within policing.
Dyfed Powys Police Federation deputy secretary Ceris Davies said: “Only this week, shocking figures were released by the Government that suicide rates in England and Wales are at their highest level since 1999.
“We need to do everything we can to break down the many barriers that exist to talking about our mental health and our emotional issues, and in seeking help for it.
“Awareness days and events like this PFEW webinar help to do that and I would encourage members who can to attend so that we can drive change, raise awareness, and reduce stigma.”
The webinar will include personal stories from a branch secretary and equality lead about his struggles with mental health and how he has supported Federation members.
A rep will share her experience and valuable insight into antenatal depression.
And Dr Jess Miller, principal investigator at Cambridge University’s Department of Sociology, will explore the thinking that can lead to suicidal thoughts, and provide strategies for teams to cultivate a supportive environment that addresses and counteracts these harmful patterns.
