National Walking Month: get outside this May

8 May 2024

Walking is good for our body, mind, and the environment – which is why Dyfed Powys Police Federation members are being encouraged to get outside for National Walking Month.

May is National Walking Month and with lighter mornings and longer evenings, it’s a great excuse to get outside and get walking.

And to help members do just that, Police Mutual, which provides financial services and welfare support to the police service, has produced a free guide to the physical and mental benefits of walking.

Losing body fat

The physical benefits include maintaining a healthy weight or losing body fat, preventing or managing conditions including heart disease and high blood pressure, and improving cardiovascular fitness.

The mental health benefits include improved mood, reduced stress, and helping you to sleep better.

It also helps the environment by reducing the number of motor vehicles on the road, cuts congestion, and noise pollution as well.

Download the guide and enjoy the benefits that being outside and walking can bring.
