Dyfed Powys Police Federation

Federation determined to give officers a voice as Force review continues

18 January 2024

The Dyfed Powys Police Federation is reassuring officers that it will continue to give members a voice and will provide updates as soon as any decisions have been confirmed, as the Force’s review into policing develops.

Branch chair Gareth Jones wants officers to know that the Federation’s priority remains the members’ mental wellbeing and welfare as the review progresses.

The review aims to put more officers into frontline policing roles, however, nothing has been confirmed at the moment.

“I want officers to hear that we are committed to giving them a voice and fighting for our members as the review progresses,” said Gareth.

“We recognise that there many of our members are seriously concerned about the review. Please know that we will continue to engage with the Force throughout the entire process and update you when any decisions have been made.”

The review comes after the Force experienced a reduction in the number of officers on the frontline, despite the Government’s Uplift programme.

Representatives from the Federation met with the Force on Monday (15 January) to review the proposals, however, no decisions have been confirmed following the meeting.

Sergeant Gideon Eastlake, who has been representing the branch in the review said the Federation will continue to present its findings and challenge the Force at every opportunity they feel necessary.

“We appreciate that communication with our members is key and we can see that some officers are getting increasingly frustrated and worried,” said Gideon.

“Rest assured you are our priority, our members - and we are all working extremely hard to do what we can to ensure we get the best possible outcome from the review.”
