Dyfed Powys Police and Crime Commissioner Dafydd Llewelyn has secured a third term as the county’s Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC).
Dafydd, who is a member of Plaid Cymru, was first elected as PCC in 2016 and this year received 31,323 votes while the nearest contender, Conservative Ian Harrison, received 19,134.
He has said it was ‘an honour and a privilege’ to be re-elected.
Re-elected PCC Dafydd Llewelyn.
Gareth Jones, chair of Dyfed Powys Police Federation, has congratulated the PCC on his election success.
“On behalf of our Federation branch, we would like to congratulate Dafydd. We have developed a working relationship with him during his previous terms of office and therefore look forward to building on this,” said Gareth.
“He will be well aware of the current issues within policing and also of the challenges our officers are facing. I hope that he will use his third term of office to do all he can to tackle these.
“Just last month the Federation’s pay and morale survey revealed that 74 per cent of our members felt their workload was ‘too high’ or ‘much too high’ during 2023. This compared to the national average of 64 per cent.
“In addition, 54 per cent said they ‘always’ or ‘often’ worked more than 48 hours per week over the previous 12 months, again higher than the national average.
“We hope to be able to meet Daffyd in the near future to these survey results and other areas of concern for our members and look forward to hearing what plans he has to help address these matters.
“We appreciate that some of these issues are out of his control on a day to day basis but he is now the longest-serving PCC in Wales and should be in a position to use his experience and profile to help give police officers, and staff, a voice and to champion their cause.”
