Dyfed Powys Police Federation

Federation magazine out now

21 December 2023

Branch secretary Roger Webb shares his cancer story in the winter edition of Fair Play, the magazine of Dyfed Powys Police Federation.

Roger talks about being treated for Stage 4 bowel cancer as he encourages members to ‘listen to their body’ and ‘seek advice’ if they feel anything abnormal.

Tributes were paid to Dyfed Powys Inspector Gareth Earp at the National Police Memorial Day and the Care of Police Survivors (COPS) Service of Remembrance. Gareth died in June in a car accident on his way home from work.

Former Dyfed Powys Police Federation member John Morgan talks about the honour he felt at being the director of music for the National Police Memorial Day as he retired from the role after 18 years.

Branch chair Gareth Jones reacts to proposals to give chief constables powers to sack officers found guilty of misconduct.

We hear from Dyfed Powys Police Federation’s wellbeing lead Dai Gaskins about the importance of mental health support with 40 per cent of officer sickness in the Force due to non-physical injury.

Dai also discusses the recently introduced ‘Right Care, Right Person’ scheme, describing it as ‘in, theory, great for cops’ but also questioning how it would be funded.

There’s focus on the new Carmarthenshire custody suite and policing base in Dafen, Llanelli, which is making a difference for officers and the public.

We round up all the news and talking points from this year’s Police Federation of England and Wales (PFEW) annual conference.

And, as we come to the end of 2023, there’s a look back at another busy year for Dyfed Powys Police Federation.

It’s all in the winter edition of Fair Play, which you can read online.
