Cleveland Police Federation

Christmas and New Year Message from Cleveland Police Federation Chair Lauren Somerville

23 December 2025

As we come to the end of the year, I want to take a moment to reflect on the changes the branch has been through and where we are now.

Following a year of transition for the branch, we are now settled, with Jon Holroyd as Deputy Secretary/Treasurer and and Paul Crowley moving on to a regional role.

Carl Baker has continued in his role as Secretary throughout this period, and that continuity has been key in ensuring stability and ongoing support for our members.

I also want to recognise the hard work that often happens behind the scenes. Karen, our Office Manager, and Anette, who provides vital support to the branch, work tirelessly throughout the year to keep things running smoothly. Their commitment and professionalism make a real difference, and the branch could not function without them.

Most importantly, I want to recognise the hard work and sacrifice shown by officers throughout the year.

You continue to do a demanding job with professionalism and commitment, often in challenging circumstances, and that effort does not go unnoticed.

You are the reason the branch exists, and everything we do is focused on supporting you.

As we move into the Christmas period, please take care of yourselves and each other.

This is a particularly busy time for many officers, with long shifts and time spent away from family and loved ones.

To officers’ families and those who support you behind the scenes, thank you. Your understanding and support mean everything to us.

Christmas can also be a difficult time for some. If you are feeling isolated, struggling, or just need a conversation, please remember you are not on your own.

Whether it’s a text, a quick drop-in, or help being signposted to further support, the branch is here, and colleagues are too. Looking after each other matters.

The branch remains on call throughout the Christmas period, should any member need support or advice.

On behalf of the branch, thank you for everything you do. Stay safe, look out for one another, and wherever possible, take time to rest and reset.

Wishing you and your families a safe and peaceful Christmas.

Lauren
