City of London Police Federation

Outgoing City of London Police Federation Chair Looks Back on Career

3 December 2025

Mike Reed has stepped down as Chair of the City of London Police Federation and retired from the job after a 30-year career in Policing.

Mike described his role as Chair as “a complete honour”, having been able to “represent officers both internally and externally” for the past 13 years.

Mike originally joined as a Special Constable with the City of London Police back in 1993, the start of a career that would see him be the Chair not just the City of London Police Federation, but police charities as well.

Mike said: “As an Essex Boy, with an O level in Art to my name, policing has offered me experiences and opportunities I’d never have dreamed of.

“I’ve had the privilege in my later career to look after those that go out every day to protect others, to serve and willing to give their all.

“The role has had some fantastic moments where I’ve been able to make the working conditions better for our officers and celebrate their achievements.

“I’ve had the pleasure to work alongside cops on major deployments from NATO summits, major disorder and terror attacks.”

In 2023, Mike also became the first non-Metropolitan Police officer to become the Chair of the Metropolitan and City Police Orphans Fund.

He also chaired the Rupert Fund, a charity that supports widows and mothers of RUC and PSNI officers.

Mike added: “I don’t underestimate how lucky I’ve been nor the importance of the people that make up the Police, together with the laughs and sadness shared as friends, colleagues and policing as a family.

“Thank you to all those that enabled my career and believed in me.”

Mike has been succeeded as City of London Police Federation Chair by Russell Pengelly.
