City of London Police Federation

#MeetTheRep Andy Wilde is Deputy Secretary of the City of London Police Federation

5 February 2026

Q: Tell us a bit about your policing career.

A: I joined City of London Police in 2006 and worked in response before being promoted in 2012, covering both response and custody sergeant roles. I later took a firearms course and worked in the Tactical Firearms Group, where I remained until 2022. I returned to response following a back injury and became a sergeant. My current role is the A Group Response Inspector.

Q: What made you want to become a Fed Rep?

A: I became a Fed Rep in 2020 after seeing the support that was available for officers involved in post-incident procedures. That was due to my role as a welfare officer, and also as line manager for a number of key police witnesses. I was really grateful for the support and assistance from the Fed Reps, and I wanted to get further training to support them. As a result, I became a Fed Rep and subsequently the Post-Incident Lead.

Q: Now you’re Deputy Secretary – what does that role involve?

A: It's about supporting our Branch Secretary Suzanne Ferris in the management and leadership of the branch, and ensuring that our statutory duties are met. I very much enjoy my role.

Q: Why do you think it's important for members to have fellow officers as Fed Reps?

A: It's really important to ensure the voices of colleagues are represented at all levels of the organisation, and that their views are actively reflected. We need to listen to our members. As an officer, I've been involved in a number of frontline roles during my career, so I have an understanding of some of

the pressures and needs of officers and I'm keen to support them where possible.

Q: If a member needs help from the Federation, what should they do?

A: The main email address for our branch is city@polfed.org. They can also follow us on X and Facebook and LinkedIn Our office is on the fifth floor at Bishopsgate and they can pop in to speak to Reps. Our website has a list of all our workplace Reps that they can approach, and we also run an on-call rota that can be accessed via the force intranet, available 24-7 for any urgent matters.

Q: Tell us an interesting fact about yourself that people might not know.

A: My main hobby is hiking and wild camping, predominantly in the Lake District Recently, I took one of the members I’ve been supporting (who is currently suspended) on a two-day hike across Dartmoor. I believe it’s important for suspended officers to have a sense of purpose, and that we continue to support other aspects of their lives, particularly their welfare and wellbeing.
