City of London Police Federation

Master Tailor Admitted to the Freedom of the City of London

10 June 2026

The force’s long-standing master tailor, Jock Hastie, has been admitted to the Freedom of the City of London, after being nominated by the City of London Police Federation.

Jock, who has been in his role for almost four decades, was recognised for his exceptional tailoring expertise, and his unwavering commitment and contributions to City of London Police and every one of its uniformed officers.

Nearly every City of London Police officer meets Jock when they first get fitted for their uniform as a new recruit, or when they have medals or decorations added to their uniform.

After picking up the honour last week, Jock said: “When I first started here in January 1989 as an agency worker, and then joined full-time in June that same year, I thought I would stay for just a couple of years before moving on.

“Now, 37 years later, I’m still here, still enjoying the work, and truly honoured to receive the Freedom of the City of London.”

A Federation spokesperson said: “Jock is a real character, and well-known and respected across the force. He’s very much an integral and much-valued part of the City of London Police community.”

One of the City’s ancient traditions, the Freedom is the highest honour the City of London Corporation can bestow.

City of London Police Commander Umer Khan was also given the honour in recognition of more than three decades of "exemplary service" to policing and work in cohesion, the City of London Corporation said.
