Increase to London Allowance for City of London Police Officers

The City of London Police Federation welcomes the announcement that all eligible police officers will receive the full London Allowance of £6,588, an increase of £1,250 per officer annually, starting in April 2025.
This crucial uplift, although not part of the funding from the Police Remuneration Review Bodies’ 2024 award, reflects a much-needed recognition of the unique demands faced by officers working in the City and London.
The Federation acknowledges the challenges involved in fitting this adjustment into the police force’s current budget, especially as it is not funded by the Government.
"We welcome any increase to our members' pay, and this adjustment is a step in the right direction," said Mike Reed, the Chair of the Federation.
"Policing in London comes with unparalleled pressures, from the cost of living to the strain of daily duties, and it's vital that this is recognised."
Officers serving in London face both higher living costs and the ongoing physical and mental demands of their roles. The Federation argues that it is time for the Police Remuneration Review Body to go further in acknowledging the distinctive nature of police work - the so-called "P-factor" - and to ensure that basic pay for officers truly reflects the pressures they endure.
The City of London Police Federation also highlighted the importance of policing in maintaining the economic vitality of the City, which has national and international significance.
"A secure and stable City of London is critical, not just for the safety of the capital but for the wider economic and political interests of the UK. The Corporation must take note of the additional costs this pay rise will bring and help fund it accordingly."
