Commissioner retires: Police Federation reaction

Commissioner of the City of London Police Angela McLaren is to retire from her post on medical grounds.

Mike Reed, Chair of the City of London Police Federation, said: "We are sad to see the retirement of our current Commissioner.

"Angela - as she always insists on people calling her - was always welcoming to the views of the Federation and engaged with us personally on many matters. 

"She is a people’s person who believes in supporting those that she leads and listening to their ideas from the ‘shop floor’.

"Her drive to do things better always shone through in what she did. 

"She was groundbreaking in being our first female Commissioner but at the same time didn’t let that define her. For her, doing the job and her best seemed to outweigh all else.

"It's a real shame her visions and aims couldn’t take shape fully before she left us.

"We would like to wish her a speedy recovery to better health."
