City of London Police Federation

Christmas and New Year Message from The City of London Police Federation Chair Mike Reed

21 December 2023

As 2023 closes it would be fair to say that yet again Policing has been relentless over the past year.

Relentless in its demands placed on our officers through protests of all kinds, the return to pre-pandemic numbers of people in the City – and the demand that places on colleagues -  and also constant changing and developing Cyber and Fraud risks for our officers who look after the national responsibilities.

Relentless in the change that a national uplift program has brought to the force, the ask of those with experience to help those younger in service build a larger workforce. The relentless ask for experienced officers to plug gaps in skills and work harder than ever before.

Relentless in the media condemnation of hard-working officers tarnished by the few that let the traditions of Policing down and who erode trust and confidence in the public we serve but also in our own abilities and commitment to knowing we do good.

But….

What is also relentless is the determination and professionalism of you, our members! Officers who turn up day in and day out regardless of the other impacting factors to do what they do best and Police.

It’s never an easy job and often requires personal sacrifice, of not just you but also your loved ones. We thank you for everything you do, as individuals, teams and as a whole especially around the ‘silly season’ that is policing the City on the run up to Christmas!

For those that have the time off over Christmas enjoy and spend it with those that are near and dear to you.

For those that can not be at home over Christmas, be safe and look after those that are working with over the coming days and nights.

From all at the City of London Federation, we wish you the happiest Christmas and a peaceful New Year.
