Stuart Sanger

I have served with the City of London Police since 2002 and have spent the majority of my service in frontline uniform policing. During this time, I have worked across Response Groups A and E (and across all teams via a 5 year flexible working pattern), Crime Squad (now PACT), the Cycle Squad and Servator. I have also supported the Scientific Support Unit as a reserve Scenes of Crime Officer.

In addition to my operational roles, I have volunteered in Level 2 Public Order Policing, Surveillance, am a reserve PPST instructor and I have been a Tutor Constable for the past 20 years, mentoring and supporting new officers at the start of their careers.

For the past four years, I have been posted within Learning and Development as a Law Trainer. In this role, I deliver training to student officers and colleagues across a range of cultural, legal and investigative disciplines, supporting their professional development and ensuring operational competence and the force’s high standards are maintained.

I originally became a Federation Representative in 2012 (or thereabouts?). I did this because I wanted to support colleagues during some of the most challenging periods of their professional and personal lives. Having seen first-hand the impact that serious allegations and misconduct investigations can have on an officer — both operationally and personally — I recognise how isolating and overwhelming such processes can feel. It is vitally important that officers are supported by someone who understands the realities of frontline policing, the regulatory framework, and the human impact of these proceedings and allegations.

I served as a Federation Representative until 2021 and have since rejoined in order to continue this work. I remain committed to ensuring that colleagues receive fair, informed and robust representation, and that they are treated with dignity and professionalism throughout any formal process.

By way of an interesting fact, in my spare time I am writing a crime novel set in Victorian London. It is very much a personal project undertaken for my own enjoyment, and I hope to complete a full draft by the summer with a view to self-publishing — if only so that I can say I have written a book.
