City of London Police Federation

Kaan Ors

I joined the City in February 2006 and was the last intake to train at Ashford. I started my career at Snow Hill Police Station on C Group being tutored by the best in the business (D/Ch Insp) PC Kevin Ives and (T/Ch Insp)  PC Jo Eales. In 2009 I joined the SOGS and was based at Wood Street until 2015. I then tried my hand, with varying success, at a variety of roles including surveillance, firearms and E Group before finally settling in Learning & Development (L&D) in 2019 where I remain.

My role in L&D has involved teaching new recruits in the classroom and assisting with the officer safety training before taking the Sergeants exam in March 2022 and being temporarily promoted to Acting Sergeant in April 2022. My role then changed to organising new intakes, working with Coventry University, managing assessing and student officer welfare where I co created The Friendly Ear to assist with student retention and the transition from classroom to uniform. It was the welfare side of my job that encouraged me to want to be a Fed Rep to support and challenge where appropriate and to change processes for the better. This job can sometimes feel quite lonely at times and so it’s important to have a Federation that you can turn to and trust to help and advise with whatever you are experiencing at the time knowing that you will get a support network with a wealth of experience. I find the welfare of officers a satisfying part of my role and will look to continue in this direction during my time as a Fed Rep.

But who am I? Well, I went to school in Catford before going to Humberside Poly where I had a great time. I then had various office jobs (something I never wanted to do) before plucking up the courage to join the Police (the RAF said I was too old) at the age of 32. I’ve played cricket and field hockey but my big sporting passion is now golf. I also have over 60 flying hours whilst working toward my Private Pilots Licence and I am related to R. J. Mitchell, the inventor of the Spitfire.
