Fundraising appeal for PC’s children

20 August 2026

A GoFundMe page has been set up to support the two children of a West Midlands Police officer who died unexpectedly earlier this month.

PC Jim Dinan died on 8 August at the age of 50 leaving behind his wife and two teenage children.

West Midlands Police Federation secretary Chris James, who worked on the same team as Jim for some time, has extended the Federation’s sympathies to his family, friends and colleagues.

Paying tribute, Chris said: “Jim dedicated his life to serving others, carrying out his duties with courage, humility, and unwavering professionalism. He was respected by his colleagues and valued by the communities he served. To many, he was the kind of officer who could always be relied upon, offering support, guidance, and encouragement whenever it was needed.

“I saw first-hand the qualities that made him so well regarded. He was always supportive of those around him, generous with his time, and willing to help colleagues whenever they needed him. He also had a great sense of humour and was someone who could always be relied upon to raise a smile, even on the most challenging days. His friendship, camaraderie, and quiet support meant a great deal to many of us, and he will be deeply missed.

“Above all else, Jim was devoted to his family. He leaves behind his wife and their two children, aged 18 and 13, who were the centre of his world. Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with them during this incredibly difficult time.

“Those who knew Jim will remember not only his dedication to policing, but also his warmth, kindness, and ability to make others feel valued. He embodied the very best qualities of a police officer and touched the lives of countless people throughout his career.

“While words cannot ease the pain of this loss, we take comfort in the memories of a man who lived his life in service to others and whose legacy will continue through the many lives he touched. Jim will be remembered with great affection, respect, and gratitude, and he will never be forgotten.

“Rest in peace, Jim. Your service, friendship, and dedication to others will never be forgotten.”
