Federation supports Force wellbeing events

11 February 2026

Federation officials have been on hand to answer officers’ questions during the first dates in a series of wellbeing events being held across the Force area.

The Back to Basics themed events, which have been organised by Sophie Petrie, the Force wellbeing lead, got underway at Coventry Chase Avenue LPA last Wednesday (4 February) and then moved on to Solihull on Thursday (5 February) and Sandwell on Monday (9 February).

Patrick McBrearty, the West Midlands Police Federation health and safety lead, attended the first event which ran from 10am until 2pm.

He said: “I was there with the Sports and Social, the Benevolent Fund and the Force’s deputy wellbeing manager, Emma Flynn, who brought along Margo Flynn the wellbeing dog.

“I would say we had about 20 to 25 visitors who spoke to us all. I talked to officers about beneficiaries and the importance of keeping those details up to date and promoted the Federation’s Copped Enough campaign but also talked a fair bit about health and safety issues including near miss reports and the inability when on response to get breaks.”

A similar number of officers and staff attended the Solihull event, which again ran for around four hours having started at 10am. The Federation was represented by deputy secretary Chris James who, in addition to talking about Copped Enough, answered questions on Police Regulations and raised awareness of local workplace Federation reps and the support provided.

Jon Nott, Federation equality co-lead, who was at the Sandwell event, said: “It was well attended in the morning and I was able to answer queries from members, promote the Copped Enough campaign and highlight how the Federation can support individuals.

“There were a number of different associations there as well as the wellbeing dog, a little spaniel that loved to give fuss to everyone, which was the main attraction.”

The next wellbeing event will be held next Thursday (19 February) and will be attended by West Midlands Police Federation chair Jess Davies.

“We are keen to support these wellbeing days and will have a representative at each venue so that we can answer any questions that members may have and talk more about the wide range of support we can officers,” says Jess.

In March, the wellbeing events will be held in Wolverhampton on 13th and in Dudley on 18th.
