Members are being encouraged to consider putting themselves forward as Federation workplace representatives.

West Midlands Police Federation currently has a number of vacancies and will be holding elections next month with nominations opening on 9 September and closing on 23 September. Voting will take place between 25 September and 9 October.

“We would urge any member who is interested in becoming more involved with the Federation and in supporting their colleagues to get in touch as soon as possible,” says Matt Manwaring, deputy secretary of the Federation branch.

“I can provide more details of what the role entails, the election process and the training that will be available to any new reps who are elected.

“Federation reps provide critical support for their colleagues and the role can be incredibly rewarding. Just knowing that you have helped a colleague through a difficult time in their career is very satisfying.

“Being a workplace rep does, of course, also bring its challenges, not least because the role is voluntary and is therefore carried out alongside an officer’s Force duties. That said, full training is given and the Federation’s full-time officials are always on hand to offer support to the workplace rep team.”
