A visit to the Houses of Parliament and an afternoon reception at 10 Downing Street were just a couple of the highlights of the Police Bravery Awards in London this week.
West Midlands Police Federation’s nominee for the annual awards, which are organised by the Police Federation of England and Wales and sponsored by Police Mutual, was Sergeant Mitchell Bull who attended the event with his wife, Jessica, and their young baby.
They were accompanied by Jess Davies, chair of West Midlands Police Federation, who said: “The bravery awards are the highlight of the policing year and provide an opportunity for the bravery displayed by police officers across England and Wales to be recognised and celebrated.
“Mitchell was a worthy nominee for an award and I was proud to be able to join him and Jessica and ensure they really enjoyed the experience of attending the awards evening and the other events building up to the dinner and presentation.
“We were also joined by the Chief Constable, Scott Green, who sat and talked to Mitchell and Jessica during the evening.”
Commenting on the awards yesterday, Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood said: “It is important to pay tribute to the extraordinary service the police deliver for our nation. Most of these acts will never be known to the public, but they won’t be forgotten by those who were there to see them.
“Today is a chance to thank them, on behalf of the whole country, for the danger they face and the lengths they go to keep the rest of us safe.”
This year’s overall winners of the Police Bravery Awards were Inspector Moloy Campbell, PC Yasmin Mechem-Whitfield and PC Cameron King from the Metropolitan Police Service.
They confronted an armed man during the Hainault attacks in April 2024, in which a schoolboy was killed and members of the public were seriously injured.
Regional awards were presented for officers in each of the Police Federation’s seven regions along with an Inspiration in Policing Award and a Heart of Policing Award.
