Plans are already taking shape for the West Midlands Police Federation Bravery Awards 2027.

The awards will be held in March next year, and nominations opened on 1 July.

“We are now just over halfway through the year so I would encourage all officers to look back on the last six months and consider incidents in which colleagues have shown outstanding bravery,” says Jess Davies, chair of West Midlands Police Federation.

“Given the sheer number of incidents officers deal with on a daily basis, it can be hard to cast your mind back a full 12 months and remember these acts of courage so I would like to think officers will now start nominating officers involved in those jobs that really stand out in terms of colleagues going above and beyond and putting their own lives at risk to help others.”

Geographical areas

The awards are largely split into geographical areas, with nominations sought for officers in the following policing units:

  • Birmingham
  • Coventry
  • Dudley
  • Sandwell
  • Solihull
  • Walsall
  • Wolverhampton.

This year for the first time there is an award category for specialist departments.

As with the previous awards, there will be an Inspiration in Policing Award presented in memory of former West Midlands Police Federation deputy chair Sam Hughes, who died in 2023.

The overall winner, chosen from the winners of all categories, is presented with the David Green Memorial Shield and also goes forward as the West Midlands Police Federation nominee for the national Police Bravery Awards held in London over the summer.

Downing Street

The winner of the 2026 West Midlands Police Federation Bravery Award was Mitchell Bull who last week attended the national Police Bravery Awards night which were preceded by a visit to the Houses of Parliament and a Downing Street reception.
