Nominations for heroic officers from Sandwell are being encouraged as the countdown begins to the West Midlands Police Federation Bravery Awards 2026.
The third edition of the Bravery Awards will take place in January at a ceremony recognising outstanding courage from officers across the region.
This courage can take shape in various capacities and incidents which have shown complete dedication to the Force’s mission and protected the public from harm.
At the annual ceremony, winners are confirmed in nine categories before the recipient of an overall title is announced.
These categories are largely based on geographical areas, with nominations accepted from the following:
Birmingham
Coventry
Dudley
Sandwell
Solihull
Walsall
Wolverhampton
Also presented on the night is an ‘other’ category for officers from outside these areas, and an Inspiration in Policing Award in memory of late officer Sam Hughes, who died in 2023 and was formerly deputy chair of West Midlands Police Federation.
The branch is seeking Sandwell-based nominees for next year’s event – so if you think a colleague from the area deserves to be celebrated for their exceptional policing, you can submit a nomination now.
At the 2025 Bravery Awards, DC Ash Forster and PC Tim Small won for Sandwell after they took two guns off the streets in a test of courage and quick-thinking.
The unarmed officers put their safety on the line to take a suspect’s weapon as they apprehended the dangerous individual, before recovering another – which was deemed live and viable – moments later.
The nomination window for the West Midlands Police Federation Bravery Awards 2026 is Tuesday 30 September.
