A highly successful PSA testing event was held today at Lloyd House, the West Midlands Police headquarters, to support the health and wellbeing of police officers and police staff across the organisation.

The event, organised by West Midlands Police Federation in partnership with West Midlands Police, was fully subscribed, with 100 men receiving PSA tests, underlining both the demand for proactive health screening and the commitment to early detection of prostate cancer.

PSA testing remains the frontline indicator for identifying potential prostate issues and is currently the most effective method available for early diagnosis.

Life-saving surgery

The importance of this initiative was reinforced by the visit of a member who was tested at last year’s event and subsequently underwent life-saving surgery following the early detection of their condition. Their experience highlights why these events matter and why continued investment in men’s health is essential.

West Midlands Police Federation and the Force are already exploring opportunities to expand the PSA testing programme in 2026, with plans for a larger and more accessible event to meet the clear demand and ensure as many men as possible can benefit from early screening.

Tim Rogers, West Midlands Police Federation branch secretary, said: “Today’s turn-out shows just how vital proactive health screening is. Early diagnosis saves lives, and the Force’s continued investment in the wellbeing of our officers and staff is to be welcomed. We are committed to growing this initiative further next year.”

The Federation extends its thanks to all members who attended and to the clinical professionals who supported today’s event.
