West Midlands PC Paul Owen died on this day in 2004.

Paul, who was 47, was hit by a bus as he crossed a road in Dudley and died the following day, 20 October 2004.

Paul joined West Midlands Police in 1975 when he was just 18 and served the Force for 29 years.

* In August, after an appeal issued through West Midlands Police Federation, former Northamptonshire officer Mike Jones met Paul’s wife, Michelle, at the National Memorial Arboretum after taking part in the annual Police Unity Tour cycle ride in memory of Paul and to raise funds for Care of Police Survivors (COPS), the charity that provides support to the families of fallen officers.
