Federation representatives were able to answer questions from members about reasonable adjustments, injury on duty compensation, health and safety issues and a wide range of other topics during a roadshow at Bournville Lane Police Station.
The roadshow programme will see West Midlands Police Federation officials, workplace representatives and member service partners visit police stations across the Force area in the coming months.
“The roadshows were held regularly in the days before the pandemic but obviously came to a halt when lockdown restrictions were in place,” says Jess Davies, chair of West Midlands Police Federation.
“When I became branch chair in May this year, I wanted to see how we could make the Federation more accessible to the membership and thought resurrecting the roadshows could be one way to do that.
“Already we are finding that members are making the most of the opportunity to attend the roadshows in their areas and find out more about what support the Federation can offer.
“From a Federation perspective, we are finding out more about the issues affecting officers and will do more to provide the answers to some of the common questions we are asked not just face to face at the roadshows but also through our communication channels.”
The roadshow ran from 10am until 2pm on Wednesday 26 November and, in addition to the Federation reps, was attended by representatives of Gallaghers, which provides the Group Insurance Scheme, the Bluline health scheme, the West Midlands Police Benevolent Fund and the Force Sports and Social Club.
After the roadshow, Jess and Federation deputy chair Mat Minton, who also met the runner-up for the Police Officer of the Year Award, PC Matt Price, put on their uniforms to go out with a car on response. They were on hand when officers were involved in a foot chase which ended with one officer cutting their elbow after being taken down by the person they stopped.
The last roadshow of the year will be held in the Vanessa Carroll Suite at Solihull Police Station on 18 December, again between 10am and 2pm.
