West Midlands PC Ryan Hunt died on this day in 2006.
Ryan, 31, was killed on 25 May 2006 when he was in collision with a lorry while he was on a foot patrol working on an investigation in Doncaster during a secondment to South Yorkshire Police.
After five years’ service with the Royal Navy, he had joined the Force in 2001 and played a large part in the jailing of a number of men caught during Operation Accordance in which he had adopted a false identity to help trap suspected drug dealers.
Ryan was described as a “popular and respected” officer.
