Federation members are welcome to pay their respects to fallen police officers at West Midlands Police Museum’s Remembrance event this weekend.
Ahead of Remembrance Sunday on 10 November and Armistice Day on Monday 11 November, the museum will commemorate those who fought and died in the line of duty, thanks to an event on Saturday 9 November.
‘The Lock-Up Remembers’, which references the exhibition’s location on Steelhouse Lane in Birmingham, will mark the lives of 147 police officers from Birmingham, Coventry, Dudley, Walsall and Wolverhampton who served in global conflict.
Museum Manager Helen Taylor said: “We are looking forward to honouring the memory of those who fought and lost their lives across two world wars. Our purpose as a museum is to celebrate the policing heritage of our region, and that certainly includes our officers who made a contribution to these wars.
“The museum will take on a wartime theme for the duration of our opening hours on Saturday, featuring displays, talks and costumed characters all dedicated to our fallen police.”
Visitors to the event can also expect to see representatives from the Royal British Legion and the Birmingham Air Raids Remembrance Association as part of tributes being paid on the day.
“Making sacrifices will always be part of a police officer’s job and this is an opportunity to remember some historical sacrifices made by the officers that came before.
"As always, the day will be very family-friendly and is another chance for children to learn in an educational setting,” Helen added.
Tickets to 'The Lock-Up Remembers’ are free but must be booked in advance from the museum’s website.
The museum’s opening hours on Saturday are 10am to 4pm.
